Sheet Metal Laser Cutting

Precionn has laser cutting equipment of various powers, which can cut different metal materials. The surface of the cut products is smooth and efficient, reducing the processing characteristics of subsequent products and ensuring the excellent quality of sheet metal products

What Is Laser Cutting?

Using a high-power density laser beam to irradiate the material being cut, the material is quickly heated to the vaporization temperature, evaporating to form holes. As the beam moves on the material, the holes continuously form narrow (such as about 0.1mm) slits, completing the cutting of the material.

Laser cutting does not require cutting tools and mainly uses gas as consumables, resulting in lower costs. Therefore, it is suitable for processing small batches of parts with single features.

Laser processing also uses computer digital control technology, and then completes processing and manufacturing through computer-aided design.

What Are The Methods of Laser Cutting?

  • Laser Vaporization Cutting
  • Laser Melting Cutting
  • Laser Oxygen Cutting

Using a high-energy density laser beam to heat the workpiece rapidly increases the temperature, reaching the boiling point of the material in a very short period of time, and the material begins to vaporize, forming vapor. The ejection speed of these vapors is very high, and at the same time as the vapors are ejected, incisions are formed on the material.

When laser melting cutting, the metal material is melted by laser heating, and then non oxidizing gases (Ar, He, N, etc.) are sprayed through a nozzle coaxial with the beam, relying on the strong pressure of the gas to discharge the liquid metal and form a cut.

The principle of laser oxygen cutting is similar to that of oxyacetylene cutting. It uses laser as a preheating heat source and active gases such as oxygen as cutting gases. The gas sprayed out reacts with the cutting metal, causing an oxidation reaction and releasing a large amount of oxidation heat; On the other hand, blow the molten oxide and molten material out of the reaction zone to form a cut in the metal.

What Materials Can Be Cut By Laser Cutting?

  • Laser gasification cutting can cut extremely thin metal materials and non-metallic materials such as paper, cloth, wood, plastic, and rubber.

  • Laser melting cutting is mainly used for cutting materials or active metals that are not easily oxidized, such as stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and their alloys.

  • Laser oxygen cutting is mainly used for easily oxidizable metal materials such as carbon steel, titanium steel, and heat-treated steel.

Advantages of Sheet Metal Laser Cutting

1

Good cutting quality: Due to the small laser spot, high energy density, and fast cutting speed, laser cutting can achieve good cutting quality. The laser cutting incision is narrow and fine, with both sides of the incision parallel and perpendicular to the surface. The dimensional accuracy of the cut part can reach ± 0.05mm. The cutting surface is smooth and beautiful, with a surface roughness of only a few tens of microns. Even laser cutting can be used as the last process without the need for mechanical processing, and the components can be used directly.

2

High cutting efficiency: Due to the transmission characteristics of lasers, laser cutting machines are generally equipped with multiple CNC workbenches, and the entire cutting process can be fully CNC controlled. When operating, simply changing the CNC program can be applied to cutting parts of different shapes, allowing for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional cutting.

3

Fast cutting speed: Cutting 2mm thick low-carbon steel plate with a laser power of 1200W, with a cutting speed of up to 600cm/min; Cut 5mm thick polypropylene resin board with a cutting speed of up to 1200cm/min. The material does not need to be clamped and fixed during laser cutting, which can save tooling fixtures and auxiliary time for loading and unloading.
