What Is Die Casting?

Die casting is a metal casting process characterized by applying high pressure to molten metal using a mold cavity. Molds are typically machined from stronger alloys, a process somewhat similar to injection molding. Die-casting equipment and molds are expensive, so the die-casting process is generally only used to manufacture large quantities of products in batches.

Material Selection of Stamping Molding

Aluminum alloy is one of the most commonly used materials in die casting and is characterized by its light weight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and ease of processing. Commonly used aluminum alloy grades ADC12.

Zinc alloy is another commonly used die-casting material because of its good fluidity and thermal stability, making it excellent at manufacturing complex-shaped parts and high-precision parts. Zinc alloys are characterized by thin walls, high strength and good corrosion resistance.

Magnesium alloy is a lightweight, high-strength, high-temperature and corrosion-resistant material.

Application Scope of Die Casting

  • Automobile manufacturing. With the development of automobile lightweighting, more and more steel parts are replaced by aluminum alloy materials, and the proportion of integrated die-casting used in automobiles is increasing.

  • Electronic manufacturing. Die casting is mainly used to make metal casings, conductive lines, radiators, battery holders and other components for mobile phones, laptops, etc.

  • Aerospace. Die casting can be used to make engine blades, airfoils, drive gears and other components.

  • Home appliances, instrumentation and other fields. Die casting is widely used to manufacture various shells, casings, radiators and other parts.
